What a horrible way to die, being stoned to death. Yet this was often the Jewish way of execution. Stephen in Acts 7 was put to death in such a way. Sometimes in the Church we have those who carry a hand full of stones. They wait for the mistake, the fault revealed, the sin in someone's life. When those types see such failings the stones begin to fly. Forget about forgiveness, compassion, appeal for repentance, they are there to carry out a death sentence!
Jesus dealt with such a mob in Matt. 8:7. The woman taken in adultery was by law to be put to death. The Jews simply wanted her put to death to prove a point against Jesus. Then Jesus put a spiritual knife in their hearts by saying, "Let him without sin cast the first stone."
Our first mission should be redemption and compassion. Read 1 Cor. 12 again, it will open your hearts. Our message should be hope and salvation not condemnation. Gal. 6:1 would sum up our thoughts, "Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted." Let's leave the stones in the parking lot.
