If God has assigned you the task of writing a short benediction for all the divine redemptive works of salvation up through the death and ascension of Jesus what would you write? It would take a lot of thought but don't fret, it has already been done for you by one of our loving, spiritual brothers 2,000 years ago at the close of God's scheme of redemption: "Unto him be glory and dominion forever." (Rev. 1:6)
Man can't improve on that but another brother does tell us where we are to make our glory known. Brother Paul said,"Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen." He urged Christians at Ephesus to let their glory be known in the body of Christ which, he said, is the church (Eph. 1:22, 23).
Many untaught de-emphasize the church of Christ by saying they can be Christians outside the church. How could such people obey this admonition to glorify God in the church? People in the world are so saturated with a humanized form of Christianity as expressed in hundreds of denominations like this - everybody should join a church of their choice but it is non-essential to their salvation. They have no idea that Jesus built and purchased only one church - his - with his blood. It is referred to as "the bride of Christ"
Religious minded people have been so inundated with error they think when Christians speak of the church of Christ they are just talking about their denomination. No wonder they are offended by thinking we teach one must be a member of the OUR church to be saved. They think we are saying that all people must join our denomination - the truth is we have no denomination.
That is the reason our speech must be with grace but seasoned with salt. We must guard against conveying the idea that the church is "our denomination" by never referring to it as "my church" or "our church," or "he or she is a church of Christ-er"? That is the way they express membership in a respective denomination. We are fighting mountains and mountains of error about Christianity that has been planted in the minds of the masses by customized church builders. AMEN!
